In a futuristic society where crime is all but eliminated through advanced technology and pre-crime detection, John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is a highly respected and skilled "Precrime" officer with the Precrime Division of the Washington D.C. police department. Utilizing advanced computer systems that can predict future crimes based on complex algorithms and neural networks, the Precrime Division can prevent crimes before they even occur. Anderton's exceptional skills as a PreCrime detective have earned him recognition and admiration from his peers, including Chief John A. Datatrio (Colin Farrell). However, when Anderton is accused of murdering a young woman, Lara Clark (Amelia Hands), in the year 2054, everything changes. The crime is predicted by the Precrime computer system, which alerts the authorities to the impending murder. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that another PreCrime investigator, Danny Witwer (Max von Sydow), has been tracking Anderton and believes him to be the perpetrator of the crime. With the help of Witwer's team, Anderton is forced into a desperate struggle for survival as he tries to prove his innocence and uncover the truth behind the murder.
