Plot
In the midst of a nationwide communication outage caused by a cyber attack, former NYPD detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) finds himself caught up in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. As part of the Department of Homeland Security's Cyber Crime Task Force, McClane is tasked with taking down a group of highly skilled hackers who have infiltrated the computer systems of the entire country. McClane teams up with Matt Farrell (Justin Long), a young computer expert who becomes his unlikely ally in the fight against the cyber terrorists. The duo must navigate the complex digital landscape to uncover the identity and motivations behind the attack, all while evading the relentless pursuit of the ruthless leader of the hacking ring, Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant).
