In a world ravaged by war and superstition, Harlan Draka is a charismatic con artist who has built his reputation on exploiting the fears of the locals. He travels through the Balkans, perpetually haunted by dark nightmares that he tries to drown in cheap whiskey and fleeting pleasures. Harlan's modus operandi is to spin tales of mythical creatures and supernatural entities, convincing the desperate and gullible villagers to pay him for his "protection" services. However, when a group of soldiers hires Harlan to rid them of an imaginary monster that's allegedly terrorizing their camp, he sees an opportunity too good to pass up. The soldiers are willing to pay top dollar for Harlan's expertise, and the con artist seizes the chance to make some quick cash. As Harlan delves deeper into the mystery of the supposed monster, he begins to uncover a web of deceit and desperation that goes far beyond mere superstition. The more he learns about the soldiers' true intentions, the more he realizes that his own demons may be connected to the horrors that haunt the Balkans. With his cynical worldview slowly cracking under the weight of moral ambiguity, Harlan must confront the darkness within himself and decide where his loyalties truly lie. Will he continue to peddle his wares, or will he find a way to break free from his self-destructive cycle and forge a new path forward?
