Bad Boys: Ride or Die follows the story of Detective Chris Lowrey and Detective Mike Burnett, played by Martin Lawrence and Will Smith respectively, as they return in the sequel to the Bad Boys franchise. The film begins with the shocking death of their former Captain, Daryle, portrayed by none other than Joe Pantoliano. Before his passing, Captain Daryle had been on the hunt for Victor, a former FBI agent turned notorious international crime lord. However, due to a set of predetermined circumstances created by the death, it seems that Captain Daryle had been framing Victor for all his wrongdoings. Realizing their former superior's reputation is at stake and wanting to clear his name, Chris and Mike decide to dig deeper into the case and uncover the truth behind Captain Daryle's death and Victor's alleged wrongdoing. Their mission takes an unexpected turn when they discover evidence that Captain Daryle was trying to bring down Victor single-handedly. With low support from the Miami-Dade Police Department and reluctant help from their superiors, Chris and Mike decide to take matters into their own hands. They join forces with Summer Quitman, a high-class thief from the underworld, portrayed by none other than Kate del Castillo. Summer's association allows the team to navigate deeper into the world of international crime. The unlikely combination of their skills and Summer's expertise eventually allows them to set their plan into motion, which involves infiltrating high-rises in Miami city, evading high-tech helicopters, and a wild boat chase. But with Victor having a vast network of highly trained operatives and possessing ties with some of the most powerful players in the world of organized crime, their mission takes a serious twist and they find themselves on the run from both Victor's agents and the authorities. As their escape attempts are continually being scathed by lethal attacks from all angles, they have no option but to figure out how they got into this predicament by understanding each major mishap leading to its dreadful and tragic consequences. Meanwhile, their presence and every erratic plan that sees the light of day are keeping undercover federal agent Katrina Reyes, not in the dark about Victor's ill-fated scheme but also not at all content. Still very eager to re-build Captain Daryle's damaged reputation, the federal government pulls in string both powerful forces for both protection and possibly setting the bar of capture a bit lower to catch Victor as hard because everyone feels bad about losing the former police captain in such a tragic manner.
