Before this anime, most Japanese animations portrayed protagonists with positive, upbeat, and warm characteristics. However, Bocchi the Rock! chooses to reveal the life of Gotoh Hitori, a high school girl suffering from severe social anxiety. The story begins with a meeting between Gotoh Hitori and three other girls who are interested in playing musical instruments and forming a band. The intriguing story explores the collision of social anxiety with other relatively positive characters in everyday life.

Not only that, but this anime also attempts to advocate for more understanding from society toward those who struggle with social interactions and encourages people with social anxiety that they can still live a fascinating life.
